Went out in Hurrican Bay this morning about 7:30.  All was calm for a few minutes then everything just blew up around me.  Bass chasing shad everywhere (I love this time of year).  Threw a couple of baits with no luck until I tried a Flute.  (its a top water bait on a 2/0 hook.  Color – Salty Super Fluke).   Bass love top water when the water temp is between 70-80 degrees.  Today’s temp was 79.5. I threw it to the area of the splash, let it set for a few seconds the jerk, jerk, jerk, pause  repeat until you get it back ot the boat.  The strike is more like a thud.  The bait becomes really heavy, set with a long Jerk and reel in your catch.

I find top water fun because, you hear and then see the splash, then there is the felling of a lunker on the line.  No need for radar BUT the bait balls were everywhere this morning.  I could not get them to chace a deep bait and they were moving relly fast.  By the time my deep bait was at their depth they were gone.  Top water was my choice.

In the last few days I noticed that early morning 7-10 and late afternoon  5-8 pm the surface activity really heats up.  Follow the splash.  If you’re in a small area they will come back to you so hold your position for a while.  They were moving so fast this morning that I could not keep up using my trolling motor.
